Ladies Only?

Due to the infamous and fast growing men’s basketball team, the Memorial Coliseum quickly became too small of a place for the wildcats to showcase their talents. It almost seemed that everyone wanted to see the men’s wildcat basketball team in action. During the time that the men were playing at the Memorial Coliseum, they conquered 2 National Championship titles and 16 Southeastern Conference title. This quickly caught the eye of many college basketball fans. The history of the men’s basketball was such an impact; they called Memorial Coliseum “The House that Rupp Built.” Adolph Rupp and Joe B. Hall were the coaches for the wildcats during this successful time. Once the men’s basketball program outgrew the arena, they gave the women’s basketball team the opportunity to have their own arena, even though they still share the area with other women athletics as well as student involvement events. The Memorial Coliseum stands today as the home of many female sports along with graduations, student events and the divine 9 Greek step show causing this arena to be looked at as a multi-purpose arena.

  1. Good subject to talk about. It really has my interest. What inspired you to write about this? Also I heard some things about Adolph Rupp the person who the stadium is named after (which you probably know) was raciest. Do you plan including that information in your documentary? What is your research going to be about the Memorial Coliseum or Rupp arena? I know these are a lot of questions but I am trying to help you expand on your topic and narrow down which way you want to go. Hope this helps you to make a great documentary.

  2. Kerra,
I like your interest here in the ladies. It would be interesting to hear more specific questions based on the article in questions. What's interesting to me is how little they mention the women's basketball, but that seems to be your main interest here. So what are some of the questions or issues you have with this piece?
